Lieutenant James Barry RN

Barry was born at 64 Oakland Avenue, Belfast on 19th July 1918 to James Barry, Electrical Engineer and Edith May Barry nee Prentice. They were married on 5th July 1916 at Dundela Presbyterian Church, Belfast. 

Following his education at Methodist College, Barry joined the bank on 22nd March 1937 at Head Office. He later served in Donegall Place, Carlisle Circus and Lisburn Road branches.

He volunteered and enlisted into the Royal Navy and spent 4 years overseas in executive duties in light cruisers with the rank of Lieutenant.

Barry was promoted in 1963 to pro-Manager in York Road branch. In 1967 he was promoted to Manager of Antrim Road branch. 1970 saw a move to York Street branch as manager.

He holds the Diploma of the Institute of Bankers in Ireland.

Barry is married to Miss Kathleen McKee who was a former staff member. Her father was cashier in Kilkenny branch.

Retirement came on 28th February 1979.

James Barry died on 18th January 1981. The bank staff magazine published this obituary:
