Boyd, William Eustace

William Eustace Boyd LL.B (known as Eustace)

Boyd was born at Columba Terrace, Londonderry on 19th April 1917 to James Boyd, School teacher and Beatrice Boylan Boyd nee Laurie. They were married on 2nd July 1917 at Londonderry Church of Ireland Cathedral.

Following his education at Brownlee Primary Education School, Lisburn and the Royal Belfast Academical Institute (Inst), Boyd studied at Queen's University Belfast where he obtained his LL.B 2nd class degree.

Boyd joined the bank in 1940 as Assistant Solicitor.

In 1941 Boyd volunteered and enlisted into the Royal Navy on Convoy and Minesweeping duties. 

1943 saw his marriage to Helen McKenzie, then Petty Officer, WRNS, Yeoman of Signals at HMS Elfin. He was an officer on HMS Fancy.

Following his demobilisation in 1946, Boyd returned to the bank and in 1953 was appointed as Solicitor to the bank. 

Boyd was appointed as Head of Related Banking Services Division on 14th August 1969. He was also a Director of Lombard and Ulster Banking Ltd along with being a member of other subsidiaries of the bank.

Boyd retired from the bank on 9th April 1981.

He died on 21st December 1988 leaving a widow, Helen and 2 sons, Ian and Sandy. The Bank staff magazine published this obituary:

Following his death, Helen Boyd presented a cup to 'The Lions' in memory of her late husband, Eustace Boyd.
